Drag Racing Results: By Dave Mance
The racing season seems to be winding
down finally. It was a beautiful weekend of October 7th and 8th
and probably the last one we’re going to have for a while.
Saturday was gorgeous, but when the sun went down the temperature
dropped like a rock. When you breathe and the smoke out of your
mouth matches the smoke coming off of the tires in the burn out
box, you know it is cold. The night started out very smoothly with
everything working and time trials going better than they ever
have. Then the bottom fell out…On the third time trial a brand
new Corvette went down the track and ended up losing it and
hitting the wall on the right, took out my center cone, and then
hit the concrete wall in the pit area on the left side of the
track. Needless to say, the car was not drivable any more and our
timing system didn’t work properly for the rest of the night. We
constantly had to go down to the finish line and readjust
everything throughout the night. We did get the race finished just
in time for curfew. Not bad for having 94 cars and lots of
problems! Following are the results of what could be our final
night of racing for the season:
Super Pro: 1st place – Craig
Giordano, Webster 2nd place – Paul Kelsch, Ontario 3rd place –
Joe Ragusa, Rochester 4th place – Fred O’Neil, Ontario
Modified: 1st place – Nina
McDonald, Williamson 2nd place – Dan Tantalo, Rochester 3rd
place – Stephanie Buhan, Rochester 4th place – John Hurlburt,
Geneva
Street: 1st place – John Cira
Jr., Rochester 2nd place – Charles White, Ontario 3rd place –
Sam Capizzi Jr., Rochester 4th place – Diane Hurlburt, Geneva
Gamblers: 1st place – Sam
Capizzi Sr., Rochester 2nd place – Sam Capizzi Jr., Rochester
It looks doubtful that we will be
racing on October 14th because of weather conditions, so I may not
have results for Spencer Speedway, but the Pro’s will be racing
in Richmond so I will relay results in my next weeks article.
Remember, our banquet will be on November 11th and you can
probably still obtain tickets by contacting Larry Fillmore or
Kevin Switzer. Have a great week and I’ll write to you next
week. My final words for this week…”Let the sun shine.”
