LIFE IS A DRAG - By Dave Mance

For a while on Saturday it looked like we may get rained out for the third time this season, but Mother Nature fooled us again. We had a few sprinkles but nothing that would stop us from drag racing. The weatherman threatened us with a 60% chance of rain and that’s what might have caused us to have a low car count for that night. Needless to say, the “die-hards” showed up and we had another good night of racing and even got out a little earlier than usual. So, here are the winners from August 25th:

Super Pro - 1st place – Craig Giordano, Webster

2nd place – Gene Stankivitz, Chittenango

3rd place – Chuckie White, Ontario

4th place – Eric Beckens, Sodus

Modified - 1st place – Sam Capizzi Jr., Rochester

2nd place – Sam Capizzi Sr., Rochester

3rd place – Keith Granholm, Syracuse

4th place – Matt Himes, Ontario

Street - 1st place – Joe Graham, Marion

2nd place – Sam DeMareo, Ontario

3rd place – Nick Tantalo, Rochester

We did not have a gamblers race due to the threat of rain.

We pushed them through the night because we did not want to have to finish this race on Saturday, September 1st, as we are anticipating more cars being there due to the National Dragster Challenge. I have four “Wallys” to award, so I have to get a gamblers race in that night and didn’t need to have to finish up a race from the week before.

Now for our “good luck/bad luck” driver awards…the “Good Luck” driver award goes to Craig Giordano. Craig won the “box/no-box shoot-out” the week before and won Super Pro on the 25th. This man is on a roll so, watch out, he’s on fire!! The “Bad Luck” award has to go to Dave Stock again. He broke his transmission two weeks earlier and came back to try and retrieve some points only to break the rear end of his car. This will hurt him because he’s in the top two in points.

Only three more drag races are left in this season, so if you haven’t made it to the track yet, now is a good time to come out and enjoy the fun. The point’s race is really tight in all classes and it will be interesting to see who will be running the “Race of Champions” at the bracket finals in late September. Hope to see you Saturday and don’t be afraid to come up and say “Hi”. It’s always nice to talk to the fans. Have a good week.
