LIFE IS A DRAG - By Dave Mance

It really would have been nice to have the weather we have been having on Saturday nights occurring during the week last week. My wife, Suzi, and I took a “mini” vacation to Atlantic City and the three days we were there it just rained and was cloudy and the temperature reached about 68 degrees the whole time we were there. Granted, we had a great time, but didn’t win any money, but it was nice to get away.

Saturday, August 18th, was our “box/no-box shootout.” We had another great turnout having 111 cars show up to race. The top eight winners in both box and no-box all received pay-outs. We had a few breakdowns throughout the night, but we did manage to finish by curfew (11:30 P.M.), although I was not able to get a “gamblers” race in that evening. Oh well! The following are the top eight in both classes:

BOX CLASS NO-BOX CLASS

1st place – Craig Giordano 1st place – Joe Williams

2nd place – James Young 2nd place – Howard Smith

3rd place – Mark Talmadge 3rd place – Nina McDonald

4th place – Bob Mohr 4th place – Bruce Sessions

5th place – Larry Fillmore 5th place – Brian Moore

6th place – Sam Capizzi Sr. 6th place – Bill Baker

7th place – Lance Pinto 7th place – Mike LaRose Jr.

8th place – Mike Adam 8th place – Matt Himes

Once we were down to the top eight places in each class, we then ran off the two first place winners (Craig Giordano and Joe Williams) for the 6 foot trophy and the extra $100.00. Craig Giordano came out on top and went home with $850.00 in his pocket and a trophy taller than him. (Hopefully the paper will post his picture with this article for all to see). All in all it was another great night of racing and I believe everyone had some fun. Don’t forget September 1st is our “National Dragster Challenge” where there will be a “Wally” trophy for every 1st place winner in each class. Hope to see you on Saturday.
