LIFE IS A DRAG - By Dave Mance
Wow!!! Can you say heat and
humidity? The hot dry weather seems to have come back like
gangbusters which make for a bad line and bad air for the race
cars when the sun is up. It is tough to keep a tight line when you
have that much moisture in the air and the sun is beating down on
the blacktop. Even though the weather conditions were tough, we
seemed to be able to maintain a good starting line after the first
round of time trials. When the sun finally went down, the line
really came around and found racer’s breaking out and
red-lighting because they were getting such good traction on the
starting line. We also had our tree problem solved after sending
the drivers back to TSI and having some new power cords put on
them. We also replaced some bad bulb sockets on the tree and
tightened up other ones. Everything worked great for the night and
we completed the racing without any gremlins to bother us. Hey
guys (and girls), we really need to get the car count up in order
to keep this local track going!!! I know we have had some problems
with the electronics, but we seem to have gotten it under control
and are trying very hard to keep everyone happy. You can’t
expect a new owner to turn this track around in less than a year.
There is a lot of work to be done and it is fiscally impossible to
do it all at once. Please bear with us and give us a chance to
make improvements as they become a priority. Rome wasn’t built
in a day! Here are the results from the July 28th drag race:

Talmadge, Williamson

The good luck driver award for
July 28th goes to Dave Stock. He always seems to make it to the
semi’s and then lose or go right out first round. He was due to
win and Saturday was his night! The hard luck driver award goes to
Bob Mohr who spent a good part of the evening working on his
carburetor which caused him to go red and lose in eliminations so
he bought in to the gamblers race. He made it to the finals in
gamblers and the car finally worked for him, but worked a little
too well and he popped a wheelie out of the lights to cause him to
red-light. (I hate when that happens).
On August 11th we will have the
“King of the Track” race. August 18th will be our box/no-box
shoot-out. The pay will be the same as originally planned and we
will have flyers coming out this week. Our tentative make-up night
for double points will be September 1st when we will also be
running the “National Dragster Challenge” (that’s the night
you can win a “Wally”). September 1st will also be the cut-off
for the “Race of Champions”.
Now that we have everything
working well I hope to see more cars come back to the track
because the more cars we get, the bigger the pay-out’s, so I
hope to see you there on Saturday night!! And….don’t forget…you
must let me know if you will be participating in the Division 1
bracket finals by August 11th.
