LIFE IS A DRAG
By Dave Mance
Could it be possible that the
summer is finally here and we will be able to get the rest of the
racing season in with out any more rain? We have a two week run
going so far even though the rain gave us a little scare on
Saturday. The morning didn’t look very promising, but we worked
hard to get the track dry and the weather held off until we
completed the races. We had 77 cars come through the gate to try
and win the money on the new payout schedule that was put in place
last Saturday. I was a little disappointed that we had only 1
motorcycle show up. Rob Ryan wanted to race, but you can’t race
yourself so come on you bikers. Come out to the track and show us
what you’re made of and maybe take some money home with you!!!
Saturday was our Memorial to Fran
Monica who was a devoted racer that never failed to show up to
race every week. He wouldn’t win every week, but he was
determined to keep on trying. Even when he had a bad spell, he
would be there to watch even though he was not up to drive. He was
a devoted racer and loved to be at the track every week. The
Street class was running for a special trophy with Fran’s name
on it and also was a double point’s night. Rich Garland races in
the Modified class, but his car was broken, so he brought down his
pick-up to race in the street class and took home the money and
the trophy. My congratulations to Rich . Now for the results for
the night:
Super Pro- 1st Joe Ragusa Webster
2nd Joe Fiano Rochester
3rd Sam Capizzi Sr. Rochester
4th Harry Phelps Newark
Modified- 1st Nick Tantalo
Rochester
2nd Brian Moore Ontario
3rd Nina McDonald Williamson
4th Rich Liberi Marion
Street- 1st Rich Garland Macedon
2nd Sam Capizzi Jr. Rochester
3rd Sam DeMareo Ontario
4th Chuckie White Ontario
Gamblers- 1st Richie Liberi Marion
2nd Mark Talmadge Williamson
I had a finish line issue last
week that would give us a false read out in one of the lanes. I
found that the sensor at the finish line was going bad, so I
replaced it with a new one and didn’t have a problem all night.
Things went so smooth that we were done by 10:00 PM and it started
to rain around 10:45PM. So every thing was HUNKY DORY.
Saturday, July 5th , would have
been our Memorial to Jeff Trass ,who was a Modified driver. There
is a special trophy for the Modified winner and its double points
in that class. I’ll have the results for that next week. Also,
don’t forget that our Drag Races will be held this week on
Friday July 11th. Gates open the same time on Friday and time
trials start at 5:30 PM. There is a special show coming in on
Saturday for NASCAR, so we will be running on Friday this week
only!! If you need to check the schedule, go to
www.spencerspeedway.org. Hope you had a great 4th of July and I’ll
see you at the track.
