LIFE
IS A DRAG by
Dave Mance
Can you believe we
made it through two Saturday’s in row that were gorgeous? Let’s
hope this past Saturday, with NHRA being there, was just as good.
We still had a few bugs in the new computer system, but we worked
them out early in the night and the rest of the evening went along
without any problems. We had a National Champion guest driver, Dan
Fletcher, run in the modified class. He had an open weekend and
was home so he decided to come and race at the place where he
started his racing career. He came to the track last year one time
to race, as he did this year, and won both times. (Pretty good
odds, huh?).
So, let’s get
down to who the night’s winners were for the weekend of May
12th:
Super Pro - 1st
place – Paul Kelsch, Ontario
2nd place – Joey
Calabrese, Farmington
3rd place – Mark
Talmadge, Williamson
4th place – Joe
Ragusa, Rochester
Modified - 1st
place – Dan Fletcher, Churchville
2nd place – Sam
Capizzi Sr., Rochester
3rd place – Tim
Vasallo, Webster
4th place –
Bernie Sadowski, Clay
Street - 1st place
– Sam Capizzi Jr., Rochester
2nd place – Sue
Terrien, Penfield
3rd place –
Peter D’Angelo, Rochester
4th place – Nick
Tantalo, Rochester
Gamblers - 1st
place – Mike Ragusa, Rochester
2nd place – Sam
Capizzi Jr., Rochester
The Pro’s had
the weekend off and when I went on NHRA.com, they postponed the
race in Bristol for the weekend of May 19th because the new
starting line was not ready. They re-scheduled it for July 6th.
Therefore, I have no news to report on the Pro side of the ladder.
I hope you all made it for the ESPN filming last Saturday as this
was something pretty big for the track. At least now people will
know that we exist, and maybe we can draw in some more local cars.
The new owner can only make the track better and hopefully there
will be many more years of racing at Spencer Speedway. Have a
great week and I’ll see you next Saturday.
