LIFE IS A DRAG by Dave Mance

Well, here it is, the first week of April. It’s about time you pulled those cars out of moth balls, and get them ready for another season of high speed racing. Opening day is May 5th, and it’s coming faster than you think. So get your butts in gear, so you can slam some gears!!!

If you were at the meeting on April 1st, then you have an idea of what’s going to happen in the upcoming season. If you were not able to attend, here are some of the highlights:

  • On May 19th, “INSIDE NHRA” will be at the track filming a segment for their show to be aired on July 1st, so shine up those cars because you never know, you may make National TV.

  • With the increase in taxes and insurance at the track, John White said there may be an increase in admission for spectators, but he said it may only be a couple of dollars.  The driver’s entry fee will remain the same.

  • The new computer is on its way now, and new wiring should start happening this month. John White is just waiting to hear from TSI as to when they will be up here to do it.  They will be putting in a 330 foot eye on the track so you driver’s can gather more data on your runs.

  • The official fuel for the track will now be VP Racing fuel. There will be 110 octane fuel in the drag pits for the cost of $6.00 a gallon. They will also have 112 octane in the stock car pits if you want to use that in your car. It’ll cost a little more, but I don’t know how much more.

  • The buy back money after round one will go to John White so he can buy trophy’s for the points winners and set up the banquet for the end of the season. In order to get into the points, each driver must pay $50.00 to the points fund by June 2nd. If you run 2 classes, you must pay into both classes. This way, all the money collected for the Mod driver’s, stays in the Mod class. All the money for Super Pro, stays in Super Pro. The same for the Street class. So depending on how many people in each class buy into the points, this will regulate how much the pay out will be at the end of the season. John White is also putting in the money from the 50/50 raffle into the points fund to make it even sweeter.

  • Anybody with a motorized pit vehicle ( 4 wheeler, scooter, mini bike, etc.), must have a sticker for it that you can purchase for $10.00 from BIG John and you must be 16 years old in order to drive it any were in the pit area.

  • GM is sponsoring the “KING OF THE TRACK” race on August 11th. Not only will the winner of the race get a “Wally” and a leather jacket, GM is paying the winner an extra $700.00 and they are having a race at the Bracket finals for just the “KINGS”, with the winner taking home $5000., 2nd place $2500, and semi’s taking home $1250.

  • Bracket Finals are September 27th, 28th, and 29th. If you plan on attending them, you must commit by August15th. If you do not respond by the 15th, you will not be able to go. If you have any questions about this, you can talk to John or me when you’re at the track.

  • Our Box/No Box shoot out will have only 2 classes. We will run the Box cars down to 1 car, and the No Box down to 1 car. Then we will run those 2 cars to determine the winner. No decision on what the entry fee will be, but we will let you know when a entry fee is decided on.

  • There will be a chassis certification at the track on June 2nd from 12:00pm till 2:00pm. So if your car needs to be inspected and certified, be there. I believe the fee is $75.00. If it’s more or less, we’ll let you know.

  • We will be having a race on the 4th of July. Gates open at 10:30 am, time trials at 12:00 pm, with the race concluding at 5:30 pm.

  • Our regular Saturday night races, gates open at 4:00 pm, time trials start at 5:30 (2 time trials only), and racing starts promptly at 7:30 pm.

So, this is what we’re looking at for the upcoming season. Things may change a little like most things do, because everything isn’t carved in stone. If you have any questions about anything, give me a call at (315) 524-9173 or e-mail me at smance@rochester.rr.com and if I  can’t give you an answer, I will do my best to get one for you. See you at the track!!!
