Spencer And "Mother Nature" Are Even; Three Races, Three Washouts by Gary Spaid

For the third time in 2017 Spencer Speedway officials have been forced to cancel racing at the famed half mile oval. The first two occurrences were due to wet grounds and flooded pit area. Last week the pits were flooded and water kept running across the front stretch. This week the rains keep falling.

“Persistent afternoon rains have done us in again,” stated track promoter John White. “We were really looking forward to the five division program we had scheduled for tonight.”

This will be the fourth year, since 2011, that Spencer lost three racing programs to the weather prior to the July 4th weekend.

On the schedule were the Lighthouse Lanes Small Block Supermodifieds and the NYS Superstocks as added classes to the regular NASCAR Sunoco Modifieds, Super Sixes and Grandpa Dog 4-cylinder Scorpions.

Officials are getting together with Lighthouse Lanes Small Block Supermodified officials to see if a date can be set to reschedule their appearance at Spencer Speedway. As for the NY SuperStocks, they are scheduled to appear again at Spencer on July 14th.

SPENCER SHORTS: There will be no racing at Spencer on Friday, July 7th….The kids club is kicking into high gear offering a coloring contest in the near future… …Efforts have started to bring electronic scoring in the NASCAR Sunoco Modified division at the track. Electronic scoring was to have been used for the Lighthouse Lanes Small Block Supermodifieds…A kids’ bicycle race was on the original schedule for July 7th. Officials will be looking to set up a different date for these races.

This coming Friday, June 30, the three main NASCAR divisions at Spencer take to the half mile oval; the NASCAR Sunoco Modifieds, Super Sixes and Grandpa Dog 4-cylinder Scorpions. Race time starts at 7:15 p.m. sharp.

Spencer Speedway is located just fifteen minutes east of Rochester, NY, along Route 104 in the Town of Williamson. Spencer Speedway is the local “NASCAR Place to Race” for Central New York in 2017. Points earned each week at Spencer are counted as part of the national NASCAR Whelen All-American Point Chase.
