Spencer's Night Off Would Have Been A Possible Rainout Anyway
by Gary Spaid
Afternoon rains pounded
Central New York last Friday. But it had little effect on race
fans as Spencer Speedway had a planned night off of racing.
With just a little less than half the 2016 season completed at Spencer
Speedway, Daryl Lewis Jr., from Ontario, NY, is the point leader
in the potent Sunoco Modified division. Lewis currently has won
twice, the last one a surprise when race leader Mike Leaty made
contact with a lap car in the final turn, on the final lap of
the race. Other Sunoco Modified winners in 2016 include Leaty
and Amy Catalano.
Mike Hyman, from Williamson has his Acura Integra humming, winning every
Auto Value 4-Cylinder Scorpion features in 2016. Hyman was
beaten once, in a non-point special run on June 3rd, when Maddy
Virts took the win. Even then he ran second that night. Hyman is
on the same pace as Timmy Catalano was last year in this class.
In 2015 Timmy won 10 of 12 races run in the Auto Value Scorpion
division. One of those loses was to Hyman.
The Super Six division may well be the most competitive division in 2016.
Barrett Schenk has two wins, while Brandon Allen and Tim Faro
each have one win. But when it comes to lead changes in a race,
this division seems the best.
There have been two outings by the New York Super Stocks. Bill Frisbee
Jr. and Jim Steffenhagen Jr. each have feature wins. There are
still three Super Stock races planned at Spencer in 2016,
including the Dave London Memorial on August 19.
NASCAR Racing returns Friday, July 8, when Spencer Speedway will be
hosting third appearance of the NYS Super Stocks. These full
fender machines will be on hand for their 25-lap feature run.
NASCAR racing that night will include the Sunoco Modifieds,
Super Sixes and 4-Cylinder Scorpions classes. Race time begins
at 7:30 pm.
Anyone who brings their ticket stub back the following week gets a $3
discount off an adult or senior ticket.
Spencer Speedway is located just fifteen minutes east of Rochester, NY,
along Route 104 in the Town of Williamson. Spencer Speedway is
the local “ NASC AR Place to Race” for Central New York in 2016.
Points earned each week at Spencer are counted into the national
NASC AR Whelen All-American Points.
