SPENCER SPEEDWAY WASHED OUT - By Gary M. Spaid
WILLIAMSON,
NY…Racing last Friday, June 8, was just about to take
the green flag when a thunderstorm interrupted and washed
the night of auto racing. Severe lightening, which saw a
number of bolts slam into the ground around the track, and
showers lasting over an hour and a half force NASCAR
officials to call it an evening. On tap were to the NASCAR
Modifieds, SST Modifieds, Street Stocks, Super Sixes and
NORA Small Block Supermodifieds.
Open wheel
car counts before the rains fell saw 13 NASCAR Modifieds
and 23 SST Modifieds on hand.
NORA
officials were reviewing their schedule to see if they can
return this Friday, June 15. The planned Twin 20’s for
the NASCAR Modifieds have been changed in favor of a
regular 30-lap program to make room for the NORA’s
possible return.
SPENCER
NOTES: When asked about the future of the modifieds on a
weekly basis at Spencer Speedway, promoter and track
owner, John White replied,” We will be running them (the
modifieds) next week and see were we stand with them at
that time. I am not real happy with the reporter who wrote
that story about us dropping the modifieds here at
Spencer. He never contacted me about the decisions before
writing his story. And I still have not heard from him.”
White went
on to say, “We have been trying to revive the division
using the 23 degree motor. I had many promises by racers
to come out and support the division at the start of the
year, but so far many have not made an appearance at the
speedway. It is difficult to put on a show for the fans
with just a few cars in the premier division.”
This
Friday, June 15, will be Craftsman Tool night at Spencer.
On tap will be NASCAR Modifieds, SST Modifieds, Street
Stocks, Super Six and a Super Six Powder Puff race. And if
possible the NORA Small Block Supermodifieds will round
out the program. Race time will start at 7 p.m. sharp.
Gates open at 4 p.m. with on track practice starting at
5:30 p.m.
Spencer
Speedway is located just fifteen minutes east of
Rochester, NY , along Route 104, in the Town of
Williamson.
