SPENCER OPENS 2007 WITH AN OPEN TEST AND
TUNE SESSION
WILLIAMSON,
NY…Last Friday, May 4, nearly fifty race teams from
around the “NASCAR Nation” assembled at Spencer
Speedway to prepare their cars for the 2007 racing season.
Eleven NASCAR Modifieds, eighteen SST Modifieds, two
Legends Cars, six Super-Six cars and nine Street Stocks
all took part in a Six-part warm up and timing session.
Each team was given the opportunity to turn the half mile
on six different occasions until dusk finally ended the
event..
“From
the times we could see the track was getting faster as the
evening went on,” stated promoter John White. “We
started off with a fairly ‘green’ race track. After
some rubber was laid down the times picked up.”
Mike Leaty
turned in the fast time of the evening in the final NASCAR
Modified session, breaking the 20 second barrier, turning
in a 19.70 second lap. He was the only driver to break
into the 19 second bracket.
The pit
gates opened earlier in the afternoon, allowing racers and
teams the opportunity to obtain or renew their NASCAR
Licenses. It also gave racers enough time to meet and
greet old friends. Cars were then sent through the tech
building in a pre-season tech session. As for the
grandstands, many people turned out to see the cars and
new paint schemes for 2007.
“This
was a great start to the new season,” added White. “We
are pleased with the turnout and look forward to next week’s
opener.”
This
Friday, May 11, marks that season opener sponsored by
Whelen Engineering. Race time in 2007 will begin at 7
p.m., that is a half hour earlier then in previous years
so race fans and racers need to take note of this new
time.
On tap for
Friday is a Four Star NASCAR special featuring NASCAR
Modifieds, SST Modifieds, Street Stocks and the Super-Six
divisions. This will be the first race under the new
Whelen All-American Series banner sponsored by NASCAR.
Spencer
Speedway is located just fifteen minutes east of
Rochester, NY along Route 104 in the Town of Williamson.
